Dr Jeremy Richardson
(environmental consultant)
Friday 15th May
7.45pm
Mycenae House
Jeremy writes:
The talk reports the results of a climate risk assessment undertaken for the Asian Development Bank, supporting its application to the Green Climate Fund. The 'Glaciers to Farms (G2F)' programme is a $3.5Bn regional climate adaptation initiative led by the Asian Development Bank, designed to address the interconnected challenges of glacier retreat, water scarcity, and food insecurity across Central and West Asia. It targets approximately 380 million people whose livelihoods depend on glacier-fed hydrological systems that are increasingly destabilised by climate change. The programme uses a scientific evidence base to link upstream cryosphere dynamics to downstream impacts on agriculture, water resources, and socio-economic resilience. It integrates scientific risk assessment, policy support, and investment planning with implementation of adaptation measures, includingresilient infrastructure, early warning systems, and landscape restoration
